The purpose of a music video is to promote the band and their song. It also helps them to get more downloads and music sales. This obviously helps them travel their way up the charts and become more successful! It also helps to create a visual image of the band if people aren't as fortunate to go to their concerts.
Personally, I think music videos are EXTREMELY important in promoting music. Music videos can aid the band of so many things!
- The sales will go up
- Their fans will recognise them
- It will help their fans understand the meaning of the song
- It could also help them understand the message the band is sending out.
Is the image more important than the music? That's a very tough question, but in my personal opinion, I think it's still all about the music. Although, the image is very important too - so the artist/band doesn't get judged if they are dressed wrong. The music is still what it's all about! But in some cases, the image can help get the band/artist 'out there'. For example,
Black Veil Brides are very focused on their image - but their music is important to them too. But overall, it was their image that got them 'out there'.
Finding new music can be hard sometimes. But there are many places to find it. Some of my favourite sources are:
- My friends
- Music Magazines (Kerrang!, Rocksound...etc)
- Music Channels (Kerrang Tv!, Q, MTV Rocks... etc)
- Radio
- Internet (maybe YouTube?)
- Tv shows - in the background
- Music you hear in shops
- Support bands at gigs - you might never have heard of them before but are being introduced to their music.
