My choice - Music Video

I have decided to choose the music video task for my a2 coursework. I've chosen this because I absolutely LOVE music. Also, if you choose the right song, there are a great oppertunities to create a meaninful video. I think I'm going to use Linkin Park's 'Breaking The Habit'.

Short Film - Prelim - Finished

This is mine and Becky's short film - A Day In The Life...

We are both really pleased and proud of our work, although when we exported the video from iMovie, an audio clip of Becky talking to me has been added at random points towards the end of the movie. We've looked back through the scenes on iMovie and we can't find this audio clip anywhere! We've tried to export it in different formats to see if that would work...but it didn't. The confusing thing is that this sound clip only shows up when exported and not in the actual iMovie project... But once we've figured out how to fix it, we'll both upload the new version to our blogs :)

But other than that, I'm very very pleased with it.

Did Radio Kill The Video Star?

The purpose of a music video is to promote the band and their song. It also helps them to get more downloads and music sales. This obviously helps them travel their way up the charts and become more successful! It also helps to create a visual image of the band if people aren't as fortunate to go to their concerts.

Personally, I think music videos are EXTREMELY important in promoting music. Music videos can aid the band of so many things!

• The sales will go up
• Their fans will recognise them
• It will help their fans understand the meaning of the song
• It could also help them understand the message the band is sending out.

Is the image more important than the music? That's a very tough question, but in my personal opinion, I think it's still all about the music. Although, the image is very important too - so the artist/band doesn't get judged if they are dressed wrong. The music is still what it's all about! But in some cases, the image can help get the band/artist 'out there'. For example, Black Veil Brides are very focused on their image - but their music is important to them too. But overall, it was their image that got them 'out there'.

Finding new music can be hard sometimes. But there are many places to find it. Some of my favourite sources are:

• My friends
• Music Magazines (Kerrang!, Rocksound...etc)
• Music Channels (Kerrang Tv!, Q, MTV Rocks... etc)
• Radio
• Internet (maybe YouTube?)
• Tv shows - in the background
• Music you hear in shops
• Support bands at gigs - you might never have heard of them before but are being introduced to their music.

"A Day In The Life Of..."

After quite a few weeks of solid work, Becky and I FINALLY finished our 'project'.
Here it is:

Originally it was supposed to be about a normal schoolgirl - Amanda Bellamy. After we had filmed and edited a few scenes, we realised it wasn't going anywhere...so we added a twist!! Now she's some evil psycho schoolgirl that just happens to kill teachers! How normal... :P

We're very proud of what we've managed to create and hope that others enjoy it too :)

A Day In The Life Of...

For a prelim-ish sort of task, we have to create a short film. I paired up with my sister - Becky Tye (she's awesome). We originally decided to do "A Day In The Life Of Amanda Bellamy". We soon ran out of ideas, so we thought of how to make a twist. We decided on...and that will be revealed later! :O

Kerrang! - totally unrelated but yay!

In this week's issue of Kerrang, I wrote in to tell them about when I met Corey Taylor (lead singer of Slipknot & Stone Sour) last Wednesday! And for the first time EVER, they printed one of my emails!!

I know this is totally unrelated to our media projects at the moment...but it's still media right? :)

Literal Music Videos

During a lesson, we looked at literal music videos. They are music videos with audio over the top that just tells the story of the video, in a humourous way. These basically prove how stupid and irrelevant some music videos are. 

Also, you would expect, that over time, music videos would begin to start to make more sense - or even make you think a little more in depth about the meaning behind the song. But these literal videos still prove that most of the ideas in music videos are completely irrelevant. For instance, why on earth do the choir boys have glowing eyes in the video for "Total Eclipse Of The Heart"?! It just doesn't make sense...
